Bug Description

On my Acer Aspire One, currently running 2.6.31-6, but I have observed this bug on earlier versions including various 2.6.30 ones, I sometimes see the following error in early bootup:

[ 17.887631] atkbd.c: Spurious NAK on isa0060/serio0. Some program might be trying access hardware directly.

This is sometimes followed by my Synaptics touchpad being misdetected as a generic mouse:

[ 18.756895] input: PS/2 Generic Mouse as /devices/platform/i8042/serio2/input/input8

(with the result that touchpad advanced features do not work)

I have also noticed after some boots the keyboard will not work.

Despite running with i8042.reset=1 as suggested, the problem has not been alleviated.

I'm afraid I can't say for certain whether I experienced this problem in Intrepid and Jaunty - it was only after upgrading to Karmic that I learnt what to look for in the kernel log to correlate with occasional touchpad misbehaviours.

Hi all,
Please can you try with last kernel version, which is located on http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.32/
Thanks in advance.

I've not seen this in some time, neither in later Karmic kernels, nor in Lucid's 2.6.32. Let's assume it's either fixed or the race conditions have been perturbed sufficiently that it no longer happens.

Sorry, this bug _is not fixed_ in Karmic. I have installed all updates. My laptop is Fujitu-Simens Amilo a 1645.

Hi @papukaija,

Please consider to open a new bug for your problem, since your hardware seems to be pretty different to the original reporter.

Max Bowsher has confirmed the fix.

For sure, this will help developers to contribute fixing your problem
