Bug Description
Binary package hint: netbook-launcher
With notify-osd, the notifications get delayed while the user can read them. However, in the case of adding new things to the favourites menu, these notifications stack up and are delayed. Given the first notification appears right away, this is likely to lead the user to believe that the action hasn't taken place. Options to fix this include:
-the notifications to appear for less time and show as they are received
-have a 2nd box saying "X pending notifications" to indicate to the user that their action has been
-change the notification to include the new app added, thus having multiple apps in a single notification

Due to the nature of notify-osd and its handling of the notification stack, your observed behavior is to be expected. netbook-launcher could make use of the append-feature of notify-osd to provide more "immediate" feedback to the user. This is of course just a suggestion.
