Abiword max print resolution only 60 DPI (Dapper-beta1)

Bug Description

I installed Dapper-beta1 and set up my printer, an Epson LQ-680 (24-pin dot matrix). I set the resolution to 360x180 DPI. However, Abiword only seems capable to outputting the lowest resolution, 60 DPI. I tried different fonts, but it didn't help. Interestingly, the default font (Times New Roman) doesn't seem to be available from the Format --> Font menu - maybe that's another bug?

I have Kword installed too, so I tried that and output on the same printer was good quality 360x180 DPI.

In earlier versions of Abiword I have not encountered this problem. Printer output has always been good, so it only seems to be an issue with the current version.

best regards,
Robert (ozonehole)

Does the output when printing to a PDF seem similarly low on the screen? Do you get the same result if you print the PDF? Can you indicate which PDF viewing program you printed the PDF from?

No, printing to pdf produces good output.

Now this is interesting. I get good output if I print with Kpdf, but I get the crappy 60DPI if I print with Evince. So maybe Abiword isn't the culprit. But all the Koffice tools output high-resolution text.

Do applications like gedit and eog also have poor resolution?

Hi Sitsofe,

To answer your question:

"Do applications like gedit and eog also have poor resolution?"

I just tested it, and yes, gedit and eog also have poor print resolution. Onscreen everything looks OK, but printer output looks like 60 DPI.

Your question got me curious about what kedit would do, so I tried that. It printed beautifully (as all the KDE tools seem to).

best regards,
