running meld from source code works fine:
# get the sources
$ git clone git://git.gnome.org/meld; cd meld

# the version I checked:
$ git checkout e91b32b965ccd00fb68bd62ce566879a9c1f4544

# run meld on the same files that crashed the packaged meld
$ ./meld ~/linux.git/a.patch ~/patches/inband-txtimestamp-2.6.7.patch

no SIGSEGV :)
