Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nv

I was using the nvidia driver without issue up until recently when it started to corrupt textures (http://twitpic.com/de7ru). I've since tried to move to nv, but it is randomly locking up X. For what it's worth, this often occurs at GDM or during login when gnome-session starts spawning an infinite number of nautilus processes due to bug 325973.

I've attached a full backtrace, strace, and version information. I am not using an xorg.conf configuration file.

This sounds kind of similar to an issue with -ati/-fglrx where leftover bits from the proprietary driver causes random corruption and hangs. There is a troubleshooting guide for this issue for fglrx: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/FglrxInteferesWithRadeonDriver - Mind seeing if it helps to purge away all nvidia bits and reinstall mesa and -nv?

Also, if you could, please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help.
