Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

Started my desktop (karmic, X1650 video card). Had gconf-editor open to figure out why "open terminal" was no longer opening xterm... realized it was set to 'xterm -x' in "preferred applications, so I opened up preferred applications to fix.. and the preferred applications dialog opened, compiz crashed.

Could be anything. The only reason I mention the above is because a) it was all I was doing, and b) the stack trace mentions gconf.
