Bug Description

Binary package hint: banshee

Package: Banshee 1.4.3-3ubuntu2
Distrib: Ubuntu 9.04

Since the last package upgrade, banshee won't start anymore, the Banshee windows opens but stays gray and unresponsive while the CPU peaks at 100%.

There is no error in the logs when I try to start it from the console with debug options. (as you can see in the attached log file).

I've already tried purging everything (removing ~/.config/banshee-1) it makes no difference. Also tried with Banshee unstable (1.5) : same.

I can confirm that.

Banshee hangs on start for me with version 1.4.3-5 and 1.4.3-6.

Log for start with 1.4.3-6 attached.
$ banshee --debug --debug-sql --debug-addins > banshee-debug.log

Running
$ banshee --disable-dbus --no-gtkrc
did not help.

It was working before for me in karmic, then stopped at some point few days ago. I am actually not sure if it stopped working before or after the 1.4.3-5 ->1.4.3-6 upgrade.

Downgrading to 1.4.3-5 did not resolve the problem, so I assume the bug is triggered by another package (something related to mono?)

Banshee was working fine for me while I was browsing the web, it froze and now won't start up. Running from the command line gives no errors, it just sits there, and using 'banshee --debug --debug-sql --debug-addins > banshee-debug.log'
 options the only thing that is output to the log file is

[Debug 00:24:05.277] Bus.Session.RequestName ('org.bansheeproject.Banshee') replied with InQueue

I've tried uninstalling (with --purge) and reinstalling, but same problem. I'm using banshee 1.6 beta 2 (1.5.1)

What is necessary is to kill banshee (killall -9 banshee-1), as it has hung while waiting on D-Bus. I think your issue is actually a race condition in DBus, as I have seen similar hangs from different DBus using applications.

Sorry, I have never used Launchpad or the bug center so I hope I'm right here.

I have exactly the same problem "Banshee windows opens but stays gray and unresponsive while the CPU peaks at 100%." with Banshee 1.81. and Ubuntu 10.10.

The problem just occured today and may have to do with the fact that I rebooted the computer without closing banshee. I can't help it, I deleted banshee (backed my db before), reinstalled, problem stays. Is there a known way to deal with the problem. Or: should I post this on another place to get help?
