Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

The problem occurs with an HP w25558hc 26´´ LCD monitor hooked up on the VGA port of an HP Mini with Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller on Jaunty.

The maximum resolution (when using only the external screen) detected by xrandr and the display configuration tool is

1280x1024

Instead of the correct maximum resolution of

1920x1200

The maximum resolution is correctly shown in Xorg.0.log AND ddcprobe AND xresprobe, but not with xrandr and thus cannot be used...

Well, next I'd like to forward this issue upstream, but first it must be retested on latest development version of Karmic to make sure the issue still happens there with the latest code. ISO images are available via http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/. If you can reproduce it in the LiveCD environment, you shouldn't need to modify your installed system. Also please attach a fresh Xorg.0.log and dmesg from this testing.

Using xorg-edgers ppa this bug is gone (I cannot install karmic on this netbook because it's not mine).

Thanks for looking into this bug Bryce

I spoke too fast.

I was able to do a do-release-upgrade on this netbook and reproduce the problem with another screen (once again the top resolution is not available in xrandr but detected correctly by Xorg)

Jonathan,
As you may be aware, modesetting has moved into the kernel. As such, I'd appreciate if you could test this against a LiveCD of the Latest Lucid (if that is possible). Additionally, if you do encounter this still, a test against the latest mainline vanilla kernel would be helpful.

I'm adding a kernel task to this bug and marking the xorg task as invalid.

Thanks!
