Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

Using Ubuntu 9.04
update-manager version 1:0.111.9

To reproduce :

Start up update-manager when there are some updates available. Click the "Install Updates" button. You'll be presented with a window asking for the root password.
Now, do a right click anywhere in the password entry field. The Cut/Copy/Paste/etc. popup should come up, but underneath the password window. Since the popup is underneath the password window, I can't select anything from it. What's even worse, clicking on the password box doesn't make the popup go away. I was forced to close the password window and reopen it.

Assign to gksu

This isn't a problem with update manager

affects: update-manager (Ubuntu) → gksu (Ubuntu)

Also unable to reproduce. I can confirm that the menu shows up under the password entry dialog. I would expect that to happen given gksu's focus locking feature, however the menu goes away as soon as i click anything as is normal for such menus.

Submitter: Can you tell me more about what you were doing just before you tried this? Also what do you need cut/copy/paste in the gksu(do) dialog for? This may not relate to the bug, but i was just wondering because it is not (generally) a good idea to put your system administrator password in an unencrypted clipboard. What if you accidentally pasted it into a non password dialog, and someone just happened to be walking by? I only ask because that happened to me once. If you want/need c/cp/p features in gksu(do) windows you can disable. focus locking under Preferences >> Assistive Technology

I fired up update-manager from the command-line, and selected the option to install new packages. Wasn't running anything except for Firefox, a terminal, and gedit. I wasn't really trying to paste inside the dialog -- I kind of accidentally hit the wrong mouse button, and then tried to click on the text box so I could enter my password. Complete accident.

I fired up the dialog again, and clicked around in hopes of being able to enter keys again. That didn't work but in the meantime, I found a new problem. I've noticed that when I right-click the textbox multiple times, I get multiple dialogs offering to do Cut/Copy/Paste! I've attached a screenshot that shows the new problem.

I don't really want the Cut/Copy/Paste functionality. I just wanted to report this in case it helped to some a problem or something.
