no sound

Binary package hint: ubuntu-docs

have installed ubuntu 8.10 and updated to jaunty jackelope on a dell mini inspiron. am really pleased with ubuntu but I cannot get any sound functions at all so have reluctantly had to go back to windows.

have reinstalled numerous times and ubuntu picks up all my harware except sound and higher res graphics on my screen.

Hi, could you please run the following commands? They'll collect some needed information and add them to this bug report.

apport-collect -p linux-image-`uname -r` 410706
apport-collect -p alsa-base 410706
