Bug Description

On Karmic I get skype crashing with

ALSA lib ../../src/conf.c:2700:(snd_config_hooks_call) Cannot open shared library libasound_module_conf_pulse.so
ALSA lib ../../../src/control/control.c:909:(snd_ctl_open_noupdate) Invalid CTL hw:0

on Ubuntu Karmic 64.

It looks like a regression since it used to work well and was broken by an update I did one day ago. Also it does not seems to be 273693 again since i looked a little and i have pretty much the same thing that what is described as a fix in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ia32-libs/+bug/273693/comments/6.

I could have noticed this before but i'm usually are in mute and did not listen to anything since this error: actually I lost all sound, i have all the UI for volume working well without saying saying anything but I don't get any sound output.

I seen 408615 but i have libasound_module_conf_pulse.so file in /usr/lib/alsa-lib/ which is why i created this issue.

I can confirm this bug on my computer. This is not a duplicate of 408615. as Thomas says libasound_module_conf_pulse.so file is in /usr/lib/alsa-lib/ and the workarounds used on bug 408615 (i.e. Create /etc/ld.so.conf.d/alsa32.conf with the following contents:
/usr/lib32/alsa-lib) does not work on this case.

@aloctavodia: Yes, it is. Keep in mind that libasound_module_conf_pulse.so AND the other 32 bit libraries contained in the package need to be copied to /usr/lib32/alsa-lib (watch the 32 in that directory name). Please verify!

It might also help running ldconfig after creating /etc/ld.so.conf.d/alsa32.conf

@aloctavodia: All of them. Move /usr/lib32/alsa-lib aside and unpack all libraries from http://launchpadlibrarian.net/29924427/libasound2-plugins_1.0.20-1ubuntu6_i386.deb into /usr/lib32/alsa-lib.
