Bug Description
It would be useful if the traceback shown on unexpected errors included the lsb release information (from /etc/lsb*) if it's available - knowing whether the person is on Ubuntu or whatever other distribution will help us give better guidance as far as updated packages etc and will sometimes avoid round trips.

It turns out Python has a platform module (since 2.3) that we can use for this. I think it will help when (eg bug 411296) people seem to have a dependency or packaging problem.
