Bug Description

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

On starting up rhythmbox - all my music is put into the missing files. This doesn't happen on my 500Gb desktop at home, but does on my Acer netbook where all my music is is stored on a boot time mounted SD card (manually added to /etc/fstab). Only started to do this - checked fstab and it still contains the mount entry ;-( Going to Preferences / Music tab - clicking on Library Location Browse and Close - the correct location of my music is displayed - reloads all the music. Strange but annoying as it takes many minutes before I can start listening to my music, and I'm not getting on with the job i hand ;-(

Have seen others report a similar bug (e.g. user marcom), but that bug is closed. I've probably done something wrong, but can 't see what it is at the moment!

Thank you for your bug report. The issue is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug the to the people writting the software (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME)

Thanks for this reply - I'm new to reporting bugs in Ubuntu ;-)

Perhaps the bug report should have read that the "Report a Bug" option
in the Rhythmbox Help menu puts you in touch with the nice people at
Ubuntu and not the Rhythmbox developers ;) But I guess this ought to go
upstream too :))

Thanks anyway!

I've seens a similar behavior, but cannot remember the bug number, could you get a rhythmbox debug log? Please run rhythmbox as : rhythmbox --debug &> rhythmbox-debug.txt perform the operation to reproduce the issue and attach that resulting log file to the report, Thanks.

Hi Pedro,

I have been trying to reproduce this error, but have had no luck.

I now suspect that it is most likely due to my music folder being stored
on an SD card on my netbook - if the card is not seated correctly, the
it may not be mounted, and the Rhythmbox application is quite right to
move unavailable files to the missing files list. I also think some of
the music files are corrupted - which suggests problems with the
mounting/unmounting of the card.

I will keep trying - I am on vacation from this weekend for two weeks.
The netbook is going with me ;-) but not the email connection ;-)) So I
may be out of touch for a while. If you want to close the bug report
please do, and if I have any "luck" in uncovering more symptoms I will
let you know (or raise a new bug report!)

Many thanks!

This sounds a lot like bug 398734 so I am marking it as a duplicate. Rhythmbox should warn if it cannot access a library, not just move all the files into Missing files. That bug has also been reported upstream at http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=313754 so any further comments would be best placed there.
