Bug Description

Binary package hint: empathy

When notifications come from the same contact and they follow each other, they should be merged into the same bubble.

This is how it is happening in Pidgin. In Empathy they get replaced.

Thanks for your bug report and helping to make ubuntu a better place. This appears to be a problem with notify-osd over empathy. I have switched the packages involved.

affects: empathy (Ubuntu) → notify-osd (Ubuntu)

If notifications coming from Empathy get replaced and not appended, Empathy is obviously doing something wrong. Append works as always in notify-osd, which the libnotify-plugin for Pidgin clearly demonstrates. Self-contained and stand-alone examples for Append can be found in notify-osd's example directory (for C, C# and Python)

Could you describe how to append and if that is compatible with other notification system used on other desktops etc?

Sebastien, according to the NotifyOSD wiki merging requires the "x-canonical-append" hint.
I'm not sure, but this looks like something specific to Ubuntu.
