Bug Description

Well,I was installing Ubuntu(GNOME) Karmic Alpha 3 when I did a few back and forths from step 8 to the partitioning screen(partitioning manually) because of confusion as to which partitions are being formatted. After confirming to my satisfaction that everything was appropriately allotted to be formatted(and not),I introduced a underscore in my username, clicked Forward, and repeated alerts of "Invalid username The username you entered is invalid. Note that usernames must start with a lower-case letter, which can be followed by any combination of numbers and more lower-case letters" pop up as soon as I click Ok on the previous alert. As a result,I can't fix the invalid username, since focus is given to the never ending alert boxes.

EDIT: Used xkill to get rid of Ubiquity.

Happened to me today installing Ubuntu 9.10. Had to hit the power button. Wasn't using any of the advanced partition options, just had an underscore in my name.

This bug causes Ubiquity to be unusable in the current Lucid daily; for whatever reason, the username is invalid by default, and so you can't continue to install.

This issue exists in ubiquity in Natty (dev. branch)

I tested natty-desktop-amd64+mac.iso CD (from 2011-03-23).

I entered a username with an underscore, which was not flagged as problematic until I tried to advance to the next screen. The error dialog reappears as soon as it's dismissed, leaving no way to change the username and no way to finish the installation, except to kill ubiquity and restart the install.

This problem did not occur just the week before (I cannot recall the ubiquity version) on the same machine when I also installed Natty (dev. branch) and used the same username, containing an underscore.

I just reinstalled on the same machine with the same CD using the same username containing an underscore and cannot recreate the issue. I'm not able to narrow this down any further right now.
