Bug Description
Binary package hint: evolution
Hi,
Note, this problem has only come up, after I upgraded my laptop from ubuntu "intrepid" to "jaunty".
I seem to have an intermittent problem (4 out of 5 times) where sending an email will result in evolution hanging. When I send an email, the status bar indicates that it's sending the email, and goes from 0% to 100%, then it seems to stay there. The "x" displayed on the status bar seems to be disabled (or it's just unresponsive). If I click the "Sent" folder, to see if the message has been sent, then a number of messages are displayed on the status bar, one of them indicating some synchronisation is in progress, but the list of emails is not displayed. Then evolution becomes unresponsive (i.e. clicking on other widows, etc fails to show messages), and I'm unable to terminate evolution through the normal means.
Once the problem occurs, I can kill evolution by killing all the evolution processes. Once I restart, the message is shown in the "Output" folder, the message is seen in the "Sent" folder but it keeps being resent, in fact, the message gets resent, everytime evolution is restarted. The only way, I can stop the message being resent, is if I delete the message myself from the "Output" folder.
Things, I have tried:
- I had my home folder setup as a mounted usb drive. I thought this issue might be timing related, hence I thought that slower access to the usb drive might be a problem, so I have now moved my home drive to my laptop drive.
- I noticed some existing bugs with regards to "tracker", so I have removed tracker using the synaptic package manager.
- I noticed some existing bugs with regards to the exchange plugins, so I have removed them using the synaptic package manager.
- I noticed some existing bugs with IMAP, so I have disabled all my email accounts (gmail, IMAP), and now it is only setup to use my main mail account (yahoo).
- I've googled for similar bugs, but there doesn't seem to be any recent ones that seem similar.
What I'm thinking of doing next (but will wait for advice):
- Re-installing ubuntu
- Re-installing ubuntu, renaming the .evolution folder and importing my existing mail folders manually
Cheers
Vince
