Bug Description

I like to have my lauchbar/taskbar aligned either to left or right of monitor (mainly because on a wide screen monitor, there's enough horizontal real estate, but not much vertical space. For ex: the newer laptops with 1366x768 resolution). I can do this fine in Windows, but in Ubuntu, the left or right orientation causes the entire task bar & it's content to *Rotate* rather than keep the content still oriented left-to-right. Totally unusable. Given that there are *TWO* toolbars by default in Ubuntu/Gnome UI, this robs me of valuable vertical space. And if you run Firefox within this constraints, much of the screen is taken up by toolbars, menubars & address bars and very li'l content! :(

If you have never done this, right-click on either toolbar, go to Properties and in the orientation drop-down, choose left or right and you'll see what I mean.

Can this be fixed easily? Can you help users like me recover very valuable vertical space?

Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. Unfortunately a paper cut should be a small usability issue that affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. I'm afraid this bug can't be addressed as part of this project.

Papercuts are for bugs only in the default install and setup , Hence not a papercut.

A paper cut is a minor usability annoyance that an average user would encounter on his/her first day of using a new installation of Ubuntu 9.10.

For further info about papercuts criteria , pls read > https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut

Don't worry though, This bug has been marked as "invalid" ONLY in the papercuts project.

For resolution of the bug, kindly identify the projects affected and re-assign the bug to that project, otherwise the devs of the concerned project might not be notified of this problem. For more about finding the right package> https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
