Bug Description

Google's protocol buffers are an excellent development tool for simple data serialization.

I have no-change test builds for Hardy, Intrepid, and Jaunty in my PPA (https://launchpad.net/~broder/+archive/ubuntu-tests). I've also verified basic functionality using the Python modules on all three platforms with the attached test script.

In other words, the packages build/install/run.

There do appear to be some rdepends. Have you tested these?

$ reverse-build-depends libprotobuf-dev
Reverse Build-depends in universe:
---------------------------------

protobuf-c

Found a total of 1 reverse build-depend(s) for libprotobuf-dev.

Reverse Build-depends in multiverse:
----------------------------------

No reverse build-depends found for libprotobuf-dev.

Reverse Build-depends in main:
------------------------------

libcompizconfig

You'll need to check for build-depends and runtime depends for each binary produced by protobuf and make sure they all work.

protobuf-c only exists in Karmic.

libcompizconfig only build-deps on libprotobuf-dev in Jaunty/Karmic. I'll try to test that.

None of the other binary packages have any build-deps or deps in Jaunty.

I've tried to verify that the new libprotobuf works with the old libcompizconfig (by running ccsm and changing a few settings). I've also rebuilt libcompizconfig against the new libprotobuf. That build succeeded, and ccsm seems to still work under that version of libcompizconfig as well.
