Bug Description

kernel 2.6.31-4 broke my GSM modem (a huawei E220) badly, resulting in what I think is a module crash. I'm not exactly sure how to interpret the backtrace, but I understand the word "Oops" :-p

Output of dmesg attached.

Let me know if I can do anything else to provide more information.

I'll attach the output of lsusb as well, if that's any help.

I assume this is reproducible? Also, can you comment the most recent kernel version where this wasn't an issue? Thanks.

Yes, I have reproduced this several times, all I need to do is to plug in the huawei E220 and attempt to connect with Networkmanager.

The last working kernel I had was 2.6.31-3.19-generic. I have not tried a vanilla kernel yet.

Gets me too with a Sprint Novatel Merlin S720. Worked fine before..
This is a major bug for me since I can no longer work remote with my Sprint Card...

When I tried to click browse to attach, the system locked with caps lock and scroll lock LEDs blinking. Rebooted with the card already inserted, got lsusb -v -v, pulled the card, then launched firefox. The crash appears to be reproducible too.

Khashayar, looks like in 9.10 it is fixed with 2.6.31-5 in linux-image-2.6.31-5-generic. Working for me now, hopefully is for you too.
