Bug Description
there's a simple but mighty tool missing: cutting intersected lines.
it's used really often in cad- or sketching-programs. and it makes life fast and simple
with such a tool creating for example the outer shape of a flower is very easy:
paint 5 circles, arrange them on the edges of a pentagon so that they overlap and cut all the lines that have nothing to do with the outer shape.
so it's possible to create even complex structures in a minimum of time, AND -if wanted- geometrically correct.
[sorry for my german english, i tried my best]]
thank you for reading that
maybe it helps...

A workaround that may work for you:
Assume the line you want to shorten is straight:
1: Turn on "Snap to paths" and turn off "Snap to grids" (or just hit # to deactivate grids)
2: Select Node tool
3: Select the node on the straight line you want to shorten
4: Keep Ctrl+Alt while dragging the node closer to the intersection point. By holding down Ctrl+Alt the node sort of snap to the lines original angle. Now you'll be able to put the node at the exact point on intersection.
