Bug Description

Hi.
I'm using the WACOM Intuos 4 with the latest drivers (6.1.1-3) on XP & Windows 7 64-bit.

Both (Inkscape 0.46 & 0.47 pre1) does not recognize the WACOM Intuos 4 as input devices (No Extended Input Devices detected)

Both effects the pressure support. The pen tip only work as a simple mouse button.
On Windows 7 64-bit, even this is not working! I can select a tool but i can't click on the paper! No Mouseclick support at all!

Intuos 3 worked perfect with Inkscape 0.46 on XP but not the Intuos 4!!!

made some testing

Windows 7 64-bit, Inkscape 0.46 (32-bit) WACOM intuos 4 (6.1.1-3)
- The Wacom table will be recognised, but you have to select the "compatible" mode in the wacom driver setting. 1024 points mode. otherwise the programm will not work correctly.
- with the calligraphy tool, when you draw fast lines, the line will start 1-2 mm to late.

Windows 7 64-bit, inkscape 0.47 pre3-1 (32-bit?) WACOM INTUOS 4 (6.1.1-3)
- The pen will only work in the menu, but not on the paper.
- I tried to uninstall inkscape 0.47 pre3 but all the files in [c:\Program Files (x86)\Inkscape\] are still there after deinstallation was completed....

I can confirm this problem on my system:

Windows 7 32-bit, inkscape 0.47 r22583, Wacom Intuos 4, Driver Version 6.1.2-5
The pen works for menu, toolbar, dialogs etc, but not for drawing of any kind.
Stopping the "Tablet PC Input Service" makes no difference.

The pen works fine in other applications, such as Gimp

Sounds like a driver issue possibly?

Can you people try to compile a more recent Inkscape and make sure that your device settings are turned on within Inkscape?

I tried it with a fresh build of today's trunk, no change.
"Inkscape preferences --> Mouse --> Use pressure-sensitive tabet" is checked.

I tried Inkscape 0.46 and it works fine there, even though the calligraphy tool is so slow that it's unusable.

arbitrary,

Can you please try with that fresh build to go into the File Menu, then in Input Devices to see if the devices are listed there? (Probably Pen, Eraser, and Pad/Tablet)

If they are you want to enable them all to screen mode. I figure it's worth it to see if it might possibly be related to driver version.

Ok, I think I figured it out now...
Here's what I did:

1. Delete all user preferences (directory c:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Inkscape)
2. Start Inkscape 0.47, tablet doesn't work for drawing.
3. Open File --> Input Devices
4. It now shows the "WACOM Tablet Pressure Stylus" device, with the following settings:
Mode=Screen
Axes:
X = 1
Y = 2
Pressure = none
X tilt = none
Y tilt = none
Wheel = none
5. I open the list of devices, and select the "WACOM Tablet Pressure Stylus" again
Now suddenly, the settings change:
Mode=Disabled
Axes:
X = 1
Y = 2
Pressure = 3
X tilt = 4
Y tilt = 5
Wheel = none
6. If I set the mode to "Screen" now, and save, it works perfectly.

So, it seems to be an issue with the default settings, and the initialization of the input devices dialog. The tablet is not enabled by default, even though the dialog makes it look like that. Even if I set the stylus mode to "Disabled" and save, it shows as "Screen" after opening the dialog again.

Also, I can't change the mode right after opening the dialog, it always returns to "Screen". I need to select the device again, then it works.

Comparison with Inkscape 0.46:

Following the same steps as above, there are the following differences:

- stylus works right after the first start
- selecting the stylus again in the Input Devices dialog also makes the axes settings change, but the mode doesn't switch to disabled here
- the issue with the dialog always showing the stylus mode as "Screen" after opening, even if it's really "Disabled", also exists here

A Workaround for this problem on windows 7 appears to be running inkscape in compatability mode for windows XP - once this is done, the tablet seems to work as expected.

According to the reporter's comment in Bug #1108827 (Wacom intuos 4, no pressure support, comment #4), the Intuos 4 tablet is now correctly detected with Inkscape 0.48.4.

Don't hesitate to reopen the report if you run into the same issue with a recent Inkscape version.
