Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

The URL and Search text boxes are next to each other at the top of the toolbar in the default Firefox layout:

However, the URL box is 37 pixels high and the search box is only 36 pixels high:

Ideally, for consistency the two input boxes should be made the same height.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, according to this report, you are not using the most recent version of Firefox 3.0 for your Ubuntu release. Please upgrade to the most recent version and let us know if you are still having this issue. Thanks in advance.

That's with Karmic's Firefox.

Please don't mark bugs as incomplete when you can easily check the bug is still there - it's not like it happens on a specific hardware, or that it's an uncommon application you wouldn't know how to start.

Please run firefox with a new profile and see if you can reproduce this bug.

I've created a new user, run Firefox, the issue is the same.

I might have misunderstood your question though, because that's something anybody could have done, and in that case I'm sure you wouldn't have asked the question here, but just done the testing yourself.

Thus, could you please tell me in layman's terms what I'm supposed to do here?

Loic reason i asked to try a new profile is because a lot of times themes cause this issue. However we are talking about this bug at this time

John: I'm sure you tried screenshotting and zoom-in on your own machine first before replying. Did it show the bug, or not?

Can I ask what video drivers both Paul and Loic are running?

I'm using the ati opensource drivers in Karmic (xserver-xorg-video-ati_6.12.99+git20090629.f39cafc5-0ubuntu5_i386.deb), though AFAIR the problem was also there using nvidia proprietary drivers (but I'll also post the results with them when I can).

More interesting would be what driver you're running that don't show the behavior.

Judging from xmag, Firefox 3.5 doesn't seem to suffer from this, at least not on this Intel graphics system.

Right, the problem seems fixed with Firefox 3.5

Fix Released isn't appropriate if it wasn't fixed in this version. Also, not appropriate if we don't know the cause.
