there are no color balance controls in preferences window of totem

At least four sliders (Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, Hue) are mentioned in documentation. They are said to be under Visual Effects on Display tab of Preferences window, but they do not appear.

Thank you for your bug report. The issue is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug the to the people writting the software (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME)

It could be that your video driver doesn't allow setting those

Use nvidia. I just installed ubuntu a karmic koala pcchips A15G everything is ok with the exception of the totem, the brightness and contrast has no effect.
