Bug Description

right now, debian menu (from Application menu) is not activate as default(see right click -> Edit Menu). It's necesary to make manually the menu using update-menu.
This menu is necesary to see and access all non-Gnome applications through a menu. I put this report as a wishlist.

(PS: I made a bug report and i sad it was fixed after an update because i saw this Debian menu, but now, when i reinstalled Ubuntu and made updates the Debian menu didn't appear.)

No, in Ubuntu the menu is meant to be as simple as possible. Not all
applications need to be in the menu, and not all of them should.

maybe the solution could be:
generate the Debian menu, but it will be deactivate => so the menu remains simple as possible but who wants more, to be able to activate it through EditMenu or through other options in System->Preferences.

I agree with zolly. Please at least install it, so that it can be used by a simple click in alacarte.
I also had to create a link from /var/lib/menu-xdg/menus/debian-menu.menu to /etc/xdg/menus so I could activate it in alacarte.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently.

I don't think that this menu is going to be activated by default, can we close this bug report as Won't Fix?

Thanks.

zolly and Holger Bauer were and still are RIGHT.

Debian menu should be available with just a click.

It is absurd to have the debian menu visible as an option with a check box and not activate it when it is checked by the user. And to make things worse, when it is checked there is absolutely NO information given when it magically unchecks itself.

and by absurd I mean pointless, idiotic, oxymoron(ic), dumbfounding, and just plain stupid.

Yes, indeed unless it is mere disloyalty to Debian

I had to install by hand menu-xdg
I can understand that in Ubuntu the menu is meant to be as simple as possible, but it should be as well simple to edit it.
