Bug Description

Binary package hint: network-manager

Hi,

on one of my machines I run into the problem that network-manager does not find system wide configurations.

I can enter system wide configurations, but then network-manager does not use them, and if I run nm-connection-editor again, it does not list the configuration as existing, although the file exists in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections

Unfortunately, documentation is poor about where to start debugging or how nm-connection-editor should find system-wide configurations. Did not find anything useful with dbus-monitor. Any idea where to start with debugging?

regards

I got a littel bit further. Wrote a little program to query the configurations through dbus. nm-system-settings does not provide a single wireless connection. When trying to use the nm-connection-editor from command line, it reports

WARNING Unknown setting '802-11-wireless'
... unhandled connection type
... Can't add new connection of type '802-11-wireless'

Although not familiar with dbus, I wrote a little debug script to read the system wide configurations over dbus.

On some of my computers, it lists the system wide connections from /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections.

But on others of my machines it just returns an empty list, ignoring the configurations.

I did not yet find a reason why it works on some and does not work on other computers.
