Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I'm using Ubuntu Karmic and since I'm using intel video driver v2.7.99 (and now v2.8.0 final) menus are not displayed properly on my window manager (Gnome).

I'll join a screenshot but basically:
- I click on any menu in the system (gnome-taskbar, synaptic, nautilus, xchat...)
- The grey branckground area of the menu is displayed but not the text (the entries)
- Waiting does not change anything
- The only way to display the text if to move the cursor over the text and it will appear one by one once the mouse is over the text.

Compiz is disabled and enabling it does not change anything.

Note that for some reason, a few apps are not affected:
- Firefox 3 & 3.5
- qBittorrent
- OpenOffice 3

there are the only ones I identified so far though.

Rather it sounds like this is a gtk bug, if menus in those non-gtk apps are working okay.
If you find that you can eliminate the problem by downgrading to a different version of the video driver, you're welcome to reopen the -intel task, but please indicate the version and provide additional evidence that it is a driver bug.

Sorry for the delay, I went on vacation.

Indeed, after trying the standard Human theme, I cannot reproduce the bug.

I was using oxygen theme for gnome. I will see if I can find the url where I got it from.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner.
There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test the current Ubuntu version (10.10). If you can test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload updated logs by running apport-collect <bug #>, and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.
