Bug Description

Binary package hint: libopenal1

In applications based on OpenAL, like FlightGear or OpenArena, sound is jerky.
Adding the following line in /etc/openal/alsoft.conf seems to fix the problem :

drivers = pulse

Found here : http://www.pulseaudio.org/wiki/PerfectSetup#OpenALApplications

Works in Karmic, not tested in Jaunty (but Jaunty's jerky sound in OpenAL seems to be worse)

my libopenal1 version : 1:1.8.466-2

Now, sound is completely broken with openal applications and adding "drivers = pulse" make the application freezing.
adding "drivers = alsa" completely remove the problem.

Today, sound is compplitely brocken even with drivers = alsa

Sound is working with all the other applications with the pulseaudio output

"drivers = oss" now corrects the problem

I second this. Jaunty libopenal1:1.4.272-2 does not work unless I use OSS drivers setting in /etc/openal/alsoft.conf

pulse will not work for this old package, because it didn't get pulseaudio support until version 1.8+
Installed the karmic package libopenal1:1.8.466-2 +same version of dev on Jaunty and changed /etc/openal/alsoft.conf
drivers=pulse
And now both Warzone2100:2.2.3 from playdeb.net and the Blender game engine produce sound with no problem what so ever.

Adam Smith : see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openal/+bug/464556 where I have a quick fix to this issue.

I have made another bug repport because it seems nobody is working on it .

Notice I don't have any answer to this repport, I'm alone. But I'm not the only one having this problem. How to make people move to Ubuntu if we can't even play with open source games on it ?? Still too many bug for that.... unfortunately.

Suddently Ubuntu Karmic with current libopenal1 is freezing Blender while playing a game through it.
libopenal1 1:1.8.466-2
I had it working with drivers=pulse,oss before when the install was fresh but tried jauntys Blender2.49b package in Karmic and now it only works while using the other 2.49b versions not specific for Ubuntu. I don't remember updating libopenal during the process.
Downgrade of Blender did not work either. Weird I must say. Warzone2100 behaves the same way until I change the alsoft.conf back to original settings, but then the sound is not sounding correctly.

I can confirm there is a problem with Open-Arena and OpenAL. Apparently the fix is to upgrade ALSA to latest 10.21. When will this trickle down?
