LCD Brightness resets to lowest on bootup with laptop ubuntu amd64

Bug Description

Install Ubuntu Breezy or Dapper AMD64; brightness resets right before hitting Ubuntu boot screen, but after grub.

My laptop is an eMachines M6805 (no longer in production).

Clarification: Brightness resets on EVERY boot of Ubuntu amd64, not just for install.

I tried reproducing on my laptop and couldn't. granted it's not the same type of laptop

testest on the following live cd's
kubuntu dapper flight 6 amd64
kubuntu dapper beta amd64
ubuntu dapper beta amd64

my system info
 HP Compaq Presario R4000 model R4025US
 AMD 64 3200+
 ATI XPRESS 200M

I have the same issue with my M6805 laptop. Both of those distros do the same thing for me. I have tried different distros also. Mandrake and gentoo both have this issue. It maybe a kernel configuration thing.

it doesn't do it on x86 version, just amd64 :/ dunno why.

It does do it on x86 here ... with Hardy RC.

just check some option on the bios regarding lcd brightness when powered from battery. fixed on asus f9 series
