Karmic Alpha3, OEM login cycles round and around

Bug Description

Following ISO test http://testcases.qa.ubuntu.com/Install/DesktopOem, OEM install, after successful install and 1st reboot I get to the gdm login screen. However, this login screen cycles around and around about 6 times before stopping and getting just a desktop background.

Rebooting the machine gets back to a sane login screen. I have tested this twice now and I get the same results each time I test, so this bug is clearly repeatable.

Tested on: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/20090721.3/karmic-desktop-amd64.iso

This somewhat sounds related to the autologin failure which was fixed in bug 402707. Did you enable auto-login? Can you please attach /etc/gdm/custom.conf and do

  sudo tar czf /tmp/gdm.log /var/log/gdm

and attach /tmp/gdm.log here?

So it indeed tries to login as user "ubuntu";

gdm-simple-greeter[2852]: DEBUG(+): GdmGreeterLoginWindow: requested automatic login for user 'ubuntu' in 0 seconds

which is very similar to bug 402707. I'll try to find the corresponding oem config change now.

I checked the code, and I'm 90% sure that it is the very same code path that was fixed in bug 402707, thus I mark this as a dupe. It should be fixed on the 20070922 images. Please let me know if it still happens.

Thanks!
