Bug Description

The New Volume Preferences applet lacks functionality,, specifically for me it lacks

1, the ability to define which input to take a signal from, always taking it from the back microphone input when i use the front port, causing gnome sound recorder to receive nothing.
2, and the ability to control front and rear speaker volume independently

im currently using alsamixer at the moment, sound card is an intel onboard using the snd-hda-intel driver.

lspci reports it as

00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 01)
