Bug Description

I installed Ubuntu 9.04 and server kernel, update the chroot to the latest version of the kernel and boot the clients get the message:

end_request: I/O error, dev nbd0, sector 188822
Kernel Panic - not syncing: attempted to kill init!
Dumping ftrace buffer:
(ftrace buffer empty)

Server is:
Linux servidor-desktop 2.6.28-13-server #45-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jun 30 20:51:10 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux

I think it is something related to udev, messages appear telling something related to that.

I stopped with 22 terminals because of this problem.

Regards.

I tried this:

appending the following in a new line at the end of /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/pxelinux.cfg/default

IPAPPEND 3

I have not had success.

Could we please not file Ubuntu specific bugs against LTSP usptream? This is irrelevant to me and I do not wish to receive this mail.

Guevara, this is an UBUNTU-SPECIFIC bug. You marked LTSP (upstream) as part of the bug, which it is not. That is why it was marked invalid. LTSP (Ubuntu) is still on there as new.

Guevara,

The following error from initramfs:

killed process 377 (ipconfig) killed
/init: .: line1: can't open /tmp/net-eth0.conf

indicates most likely that the driver for your thin clients is not present in the initramfs pushed down to the client. Do you know what driver the thin clients use? If so, you may want to do the following:

1. Add the driver to: /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/initramfs-tools/modules
2. sudo chroot /opt/ltsp/i386
3. update-initramfs -c -k <kernel-version>
4. exit
5. sudo ltsp-update-kernels

And then, reboot the thin client.

Hope this helps! If it does not, it may help to tell us what network driver/chip the clients use, and you may want to search for bugs in Jaunty against that driver/chip.

Ok Jordan, I understand now, thanks for answering and explaining how work this site.

GideonRomm,
I used LTSP on Ubuntu 8.04.2 and never had problems with driver of network card in the terminal, so posted here.
Clients use rtl8139, 8139too module.

The server is a 8139too (eth0) and r8169 (eth1), is the network card i use to do dhcp for clients.

I'm using this image bootdisk to clients: http://etherboot.anadex.de/

I try adding the module 8139too modules as suggested in, and replay tomorrow.

Thank you.

did not work.
I tried also using the desktop kernel and rebuild the image of the client does not work.
I put the module in the modules archive and the bug persists.
Appeared a message that udev was killed too.

Could you try on Karmic (9.10) ?
We have a new kernel and fixed nbd there, maybe your issue got fixed at the same time.
