Bug Description

I'm seeing random momentary screenblanks (both monitors) while I'm using the machine; it blanks but does not lock.
Hitting a key and it pops back.

Never seen on Jaunty or earlier.

In Karmic uptodate as of yesterday (18th July) on 64bit with Intel graphics (Toshiba Equium A100, Core2duo, 945G, in Gnome).

Not really sure which package this should land on.

Nothing particularly smoking gun in the logs either.

Correct package is gnome-power-manager, not screensaver. It does happend in jaunty as well. There is already report in gnome bugzilla about this issue. Can't find it right now because bugzilla is such pita. It does seem to happend with very different hardware and drivers but it's not that common i quess.

I am also experiencing blanks (screen turns black) for about 1-2 seconds. this has happened with both ATI and nvidia cards under karmic 32 bit with proposed enabled and fully updated as of yesterday. it doesn't seem to matter much what xorg driver i am using, it still blanks, but it lasts about 1-2 seconds, and then the screen reappears. i do not have to press a key.

Is it probably bug 580570 in Gnome-Bugzilla: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=580570 ?

So have you set g-p-m to never put your display to sleep?

Odd, I haven't tried that yet - mine are setup to put to sleep after some fairly long amount
Both monitors are doing it (internal LCD and external VGA LCD).

Still, according to xset q dpms is already disabled.

(I'm also seeing this same problem under xfce - hmm although that might be a red herring since an xlsclients is showing both gnome-power-manager and xfce4-power-manager running;
   gnome-power preferences for 'on ac' shows for display; 'put display to sleep when inactive for: 30mins', 'set display brightness to '100%'
  the xfce equivalent says 10mins to put display to sleep when inactive, 15mins to switch it off.

  The original report was purely under gnome).

Confirming. In my case, g-p-s is disabled to dim while idle, and it happens even while I am using the keyboard. Last time (yesterday evening) I decided to wait and see if the screen would recover: it did not, until I hit the keyboard.

its still happening to me updated as of Aug 7th. it blanks, and my screen goes to sleep, and its awakened by a keypress. this is with 32 bit karmic with proposed enabled, i have turned my screensaver off completely, and it still happens, i however have a setting to turn off my monitor at the 30 minute mark elsewhere (power management) and oddly i dont believe it ever does power off my monitor, however, the screen blanking for no reason at all, is still occuring to me as of 8/7.
