On tabbing to the text area in Step 7 of Ubuntu Installation, orca reports this as read-only text frame. However the text can be read using the caret browsing.

I'm not a maintainer or anything, but I don't understand how this is a bug. Read-only text areas should be readable using the caret browsing, shouldn't they? That's standard GNOME behavior after all, how else would you read the information? As an Orca user, I would expect this to work exactly as you are describing... or am I misunderstanding you?

The major problem with orca it starts reading the new window from 'Step x or x ...' line instead of announcing the title of new window and its content. This is the case with the Step 7, the user has to resort to shift-tab (ing) and read the page with caret.

Thanks for reporting this bug and any supporting documentation. Since this bug has enough information provided for a developer to begin work, I'm going to mark it as confirmed and let them handle it from here.

This page contains information the user is supposed verifying before the installation runs. Is there a way to simply allow orca to read this information?

Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better!

This entire page is no longer present as of the UI redesign in ubiquity 2.3.4 (Ubuntu 11.10), so this is effectively fixed.
