Bug Description

I tried to install Ubuntu 9.10 karamic Alpha 2 on my HP753, but after part of the installation a Red window with "OUT OF RANGE" written appears and the installation stops.
I had the same problem when attempting to install Ubuntu 8.10 or 9.04 on the same PC.
This PC uses the Intell 845 video controller.

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

Mr. Brice Harrington,
please, find attached the last file requested, the /Xorg.conf .
I want to add that all the files send to you by attachments, are files of my PC with Ubuntu 8.04, an upgrade of 7.10.
I had to install first the Ubuntu 7.10 version and then upgrade since the installation of 8.04 by CD was suffering the same problem.

Well, next I'd like to forward this issue upstream, but first it must be retested on latest development version of Karmic to make sure the issue still happens there with the latest code. ISO images are available at http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/releases/karmic/. If you can reproduce it in the LiveCD environment, you shouldn't need to modify your installed system. Also please attach a fresh Xorg.0.log and dmesg from this testing.

Mr. Bryce Harrington,
following your request I downloaded again the ISO image as suggested.
Unfortunately, the live CD does the same thing. After copying the files to the PC, the same Red window appears on a black screen with written in "OUT OF RANGE" on a Black screen. The Black screen stays on and then the Ubuntu anthem is herd and nothing also.
I am attaching the requested Xorg.0.log as requested and later the dmesg of my 8.04 installation.

Again, you need to test against _karmic_ - it seems you used the 8.10 according to the Xorg.0.log you posted.

Mr. Bryce Harrington,
I am sorry to inform you that I am unable to supply the Xorg.0.log from _karmic_ installation, as requested,
The Xorg.0.log supplied is from the working installed Ubuntu 8.04, an upgrade from 7.10.

_karmic_ does not install either from Live CD environment or CD as notified previously.
As submitted previously, when trying to install _karmic_ after the initial part of the installation, a Red window with "OUT OF RANGE" on a Black screen appears. The screen stays Black with the window. Later the Ubuntu anthem is heard. At this point the only thing that I am allowed to do is to SWITCH OFF the PC.
This is the reason why I can not supply you with the requested _karmic_ Xorg.0.log.
I repeat, if this is of any help, that the same thing takes place when trying to install Ubuntu 8.10 or 9.04.
The only Ubuntu that I can install from CD is version 7.10 or previous.
Yours,
Gaetano Arena

We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help.

Mr. Bruce Harrington,
With my last comment I explained that I was not be able to supply the requested lspci and Xorg.0.log for Ubuntu 9.10, since 9.10 does not install on my Hewlet Packard 713n PC.
All the Ubuntu releases subsequent to 7.10, including Ubuntu 9,10, terminate the installation when reaching, what I suspect is the Xorg portion of the installation. The installation with the Live CD does the same thing and stops at the same point.
You can see, Mr Harrington, that it is not possible for me to accede to the requested files if the 9,10 Release does not install and the PC behaves like a useless junk with no access to any use of the Keyboard.
I hope that sometime in the future Xorg will finally work properly and I will be able to enjoy the features of the new Releases.
Yours,
Gaetano Arena
