Bug Description

Binary package hint: network-manager

Recently, my wireless adapter has ceased its normal routine of activating on login. Now I have to push the hardware button on my keyboard that activates it every time I log in before I can connect to a wireless network. Here's the relevant log, I think:

I realized that I misunderstood the problem; it is not the network adapter that is off, it is wireless in general that is disabled. When I connect a usb wifi adapter, it still requires me to push the keyboard button for it to work (the notification applet says "wireless disabled" until I do). the internal uses wlan4 and iwlagn driver, the usb uses wlan3 and the zd1211rw driver.

Hi,

for me it looks like that you need ti disable "kill switch".
Here is an example:

(hp pavilion ze4900) (disabling the kill switch) as follows:

* Enable LED: sudo su echo 1> "/ sys/bus/pci/drivers/ipw2200/0000: 02:06.0 / led"
* Press On laptop on the wireless button (with the WLAN LED) and thus disable the hardware kill switch
* Finished:
cat "/ sys/bus/pci/drivers/ipw2200/0000: 02:06.0 / rf_kill"
0

I hope you could use the informations from the example for your problem.

It might not be the cause of the issues, but just in case (and since it might fix killswitch as well), could you please upgrade your wireless adapter's firmware?

iwlagn 0000:07:00.0: Firmware has old API version. Expected v2, got v1. New firmware can be obtained from http://www.intellinuxwireless.org.

You can also do so easily by using a newer version of Ubuntu. If possible, please try with in a Live Session using the CD of the current latest version of Ubuntu (version 10.10, "Maverick Meerkat"... see http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu for instructions on how to get the latest release), and see if you still need to turn off the killswitch to be able to use wireless.

Thanks!
