error installing swapd program

Ubuntu 9.04, installed from windows using Ubuntu windows installer.
space provided 10 GB
wanted to create a swap file to allow hibernate to work, read that i need to install swapd using the command
sudo apt-get install swapd

on executing, i got an error message and that my application has crashed !!
