UXA leads to 100% swap consumption

Bug Description

First of all, i use the intel drivers from X Updates PPA (otherwise the system isn't really usable with my Intel X3100) and KDE 4.3 RC packages from backports-PPA.

Now, if I use UXA (which should be normal method) as AccelMethod, there is a continous Swap consumption (though there is enough free RAM) until 100% of swap are used and the system eventually needs to be restarted via power button (unless i perform a reboot before).

Further, with dual screen enabled, the wake after suspend to ram leads to a 100% consumption instantly (but not with a single screen).

Using old EXA as AccelMethod this problem does not occur, everythings is fine, but..

.. with KDE 4.3 i have to use UXA to get my dual screen setting working with desktop effects. Since some desktop effects are critical for me (e.g. present windows, desktop grid) and i really want to use my external monitor i am between the devil and the deep blue sea :-/

Versions:
Kubuntu Jaunty, 32 Bit
KDE 4.3 RC 1
xserver-xorg-video-intel: Version: 2:2.7.1-0ubuntu1~xup~1
xserver-xorg: 1:7.4~5ubuntu18

Graphics:
Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c)

If you need more information, tell me which i should provide.

This is fixed in karmic. UXA was not used in jaunty because of problems like this. Do you also have the problem requiring UXA in jaunty's KDE? If you want to use unsupported things such as KDE 4.3 and UXA in jaunty, I recommend using this PPA where the problem is fixed as well.

Also please note that a large portion of the intel fixes are in the kernel, so you'll want to also install the kernel in the PPA via a sudo apt-get install linux-image-2.6.30-10-generic linux-headers-2.6.30-10 linux-headers-2.6.30-10-generic.

That looks really good know! Thanks a bunch! :)

I didn't know the Xorg Edgers PPA, yet, but with this and the current version of 2.6.30 (i had one installed some few weeks ago) it works like a charm again. No swap eating, dual screen working perfectly and suspending is exczellent again! Only needed to fit the screen names, which changed from LVDS to LVDS1 and VGA accordingly.

With 4.2 i only used EXA which was working fine. I'm afraid, i don't have the original version to test it.

Does this status fit best? It's solved at least.

Changed in xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu):

That works, I'm glad to hear its fixed for you and things should be working right whenever you upgrade to karmic :) Jaunty was released at a real unfortunate time for intel graphics users, but things have come along an amazing amount in the time since it was released.

That's true, things have been worked up quite fast. It's kind of exciting seeing the progress (and not only with intel drivers) immediately and notice how everything is going forward.
