Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-core

Some time ago I was using Jaunty with xorg-edgers repo added now I've switched to Karmik.
I use 2 monitors, built in LVDS 1680x1050 and external 1920x1200. After in Jaunty I received updated xserver-xorg-core including "Make RANDR 'set' timestamps follow client specified time. Bug 21987." commit from upstream, "xrandr --output VGA --right-of LVDS --auto" stopped working saying something about "invalid config time". Then I switched to karmik, xrandr --verbose --output VGA --right-of LVDS --auto doesn't produce any output and has no effect on display.

Hi lukasz-kurylo,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log (and maybe Xorg.0.log.old) file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

None of those had any effect:

lukasz@eleonore:~$ xrandr --output VGA --right-of LVDS --auto
lukasz@eleonore:~$ xrandr --output VGA --left-of LVDS --auto
lukasz@eleonore:~$ xrandr --output VGA --off
lukasz@eleonore:~$ xrandr --output VGA --left-of LVDS --auto
lukasz@eleonore:~$ xrandr --output VGA --right-of LVDS --auto
lukasz@eleonore:~$ xrandr --output VGA --off

Even
lukasz@eleonore:~$ xrandr --verbose --output VGA --off
doesn't produce any output and both display are still on.
arandr works very well though.

In Karmic you are using KMS. With KMS the names of the outputs have changed. VGA is now VGA1 and LVDS is now LVDS1.
These are the output names you have to use in xrandr commands.
So, most likely, xrandr --output VGA1 --right-of LVDS1 --auto will do something now.
Please let us know if that solves the problem.

Just got back from holidays.
Albert, you're right. My mistake. Anyway xrandr could write "no such output" or something.
