Bug Description

I have the GA-MA790GP-UD4H with an onboard ATI Radeon HD3300 with 128 MB DDR3 so called sideport memory (onboard).
In the BIOS I activated only the sideport memory for the graphic.

But Ubuntu does not use the sideport memory (it seems so) and uses 512 MB from the RAM.

When I change the BIOS settings to 'use sideport + DMA' the same problem.

I have the same problem on a ASROCK AOD790GX mainboard.

Without xorg-driver-fglrx it is running sideport only. With xorg-driver-fglrx (does not matter if I use proprietary or open-source ATI drivers) I get a BSOD instead of seeing GDM (the ubuntu boot screen is still fine). Also passing GDB and entering via root shell directly into x gives BSOD.

I assume this problem to affect any HD3300 mainboard.

Ups forgot to say. This bug affects me on both 9.04 and 9.10 alpha 5 (I upgraded because I hoped that it is solved).

Running the live-CD no probs however!

Without xorg-fglrx (and sideport only) my screen often looses connection and stays black for 5 seconds.

Hi LAZA,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 397742

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

Or is it cause of the measurement (GB vs. GiBi)???

So this would NOT be a bug...

Just boot the Ubuntu 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat"? LiveCD and see whether the original problem you reported is gone. If not, please post the output of lspci -vvnn and the contents of dmesg and Xorg0.log while booted from the LiveCD.

Can't say, if the sideport memory is used..., i got now Maverick installed.
In the system manager the RAM is counted with 7,8 GiB = 8 GB - witch seems correct!

For more infos i attached the output from
lspci -vvnn
dmesg
hope, this helps you out.

For more infos don't hesitate to ask!
