Bug Description

Ubuntu 9.04,

I may have deleted something in a Janitor's cleanup, because I have no access to either panels... they're both gone, and I don't know how to launch an application! I can open the terminal, via a shortcut key, but don't know many commands...

I noticed the grub-loader at boot up. Something I've never noticed before. So after I restarted, I launched recovery mode kernel, and did a repair, upgrade, and fschk.

there was no visible difference. could you please help me? This is urgent! I don't know how to use the computer without the panels...

You can start a panel by typing 'gnome-panel &' from the command line. You'll see some debugging text, but just hit enter a couple of times and then type 'exit'. If you close the terminal window by clicking the [x], your panel will close, so be sure to close it by typing 'exit'.

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs.
