Bug Description

Choosing any of the following options makes the panel larger, whilst other applications icons remain small, which gives the panel an odd unprofessional look.

To reproduce this bug reduce your panel #1 to 24 or smaller. When configuring the battery monitor applet checking the following options will make the panel larger (which is the bug):

- Display percentage - probably could use a variable font size to help the text fit properly with small panels

- Display Power. Oddly, if on AC then text 'AC' appears and panel gets larger to accommodate. When on battery no text (or anything else) appears, but the panel gets larger anyway (??!)

- Display Icon. Panel gets larger and icon does not appear to scale at all. Even with very large panels the icon stays the same size. Other xfce panel icons appear to scale with the panel.

As I'm just just starting a large test cycle on xubuntu/xfce4 please feel free to ask anything. I have several machines available (laptop and desktop).

Cheers,
Craig

This happens for me too, and is quite annoying. I am using dapper.

I also happens in edgy.

I have been browsing the code, and it seems like it can be patched. I attach the patch. I am newbe and I am not a member who can modify any software. I do not know really how this is going and who has to read this is order to aprove and apply this patch to a new distro or update.

I also write the steps I have done:

sudo apt-get source xfce4-battery-plugin

"modify the battmon.c file with the patch."

cd xfce4-battery-plugin-0.4.0
sudo dpkg-buildpackage
cd ..
dpkg -i xfce4-battery-plugin_0.4.0-0ubuntu4_i386.deb

The panel is no longer resized when the battery monitor is added.

Thanks for your work, but we won't fix this in dapper (nor in edgy), since it's not a "high-impact bug" (see the "When" section of https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates).
The new upstream release in feisty fixes the problem.
