Keyboard input problem

Bug Description

 My problem is with keyboard input sometimes. It occurs untill machine reboot or just going from gnome to -> terminal (ttyX) and back to -> gnome. Problem is solved for gnome session, I can do everything like normal, but it persists in terminals (ttyXs). I am even unable to login via tty! (see attached screenshot)
 Now finally to core of the problem. From nothing my keyboard input just goes crazy and I am unable to write text at all. Everything I can do is "send orders" like t = win_key+t (^t signal), so I can start my terminal ONLY by pressing T button. (although my default is win_key + t) All I send from keyboard is ^s ^[s ^[k etc..
I am using 9.04 2.6.28-13-generic i686 (upgraded from gutsy -> hardy -> intrepid -> jaunty)
My default keyboard layout is USA.
What should I do?
Thank you for answers.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug.
Can you provide the model and connector of your keyboard ? and attach the output of the following commands:

$ uname -a > ~/uname-a
$ cat /proc/version_signature > ~/version_signature
$ sudo lspci -vvnn > ~/lspci-vvnn

Thanks in advance.

Hello
I am on 9.10 now, so results are from testing koala. I think that bug happens too, but very rarely.. got it only once in 2 months or so. It's laptops Toshiba A200 (usb) keyboard, I believe

I'm associatting this bug to xserver-xorg-input-keyboard.
so you have a usb keyboard, can you add the output of lsusb -v > ~/lsusb-v

affects: ubuntu → xserver-xorg-input-keyboard (Ubuntu)

Well.. I think I have USB keyboard :) It's builtin so I only guess :)
Here's the lsusb, but it's from 9.10, maybe it's already corrected.

If it happens in the console, it's not a bug in X. Can you reproduce with a clean system? Try with a livecd.

affects: xserver-xorg-input-keyboard (Ubuntu) → linux (Ubuntu)

Hi Michalxo,

Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If the issue remains, please run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 397496

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Jeremy Foshee,

 I installed fresh karmic after having some issues with Karmic alpha3 or 4. On fresh install, If I recall correctly, it happened only once or twice (max) since then. And when I went to console and back, everything was back to normal.

 About reproduction of bug.. it's almost impossible for me to reproduce it "by force". (as always was) I don't know the cause :-(

I'll try liveCD for a few days. Which kernel(s) to try? I was using this for quite a long time (a month?) linux-image-2.6.32-02063202-generic and no problem with it i think.

ps; Where is that mainstream "tag"?
 Mich

I'm not sure what you mean by 'mainstream tag' but daily live CD builds are located here: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/

I've just did a small test. Added new user and tried to log in via this new account. So problem 'should' be on kernel's side?
