I don't know how can that stop mplayer (actually I can't see in the log that mplayer stops).

Anyway try adding "-mixer-channel Master" to Preferences->Advanced->Options for MPlayer->Options.

hey it's not a bug, just the default behavior. to correct this just to options->preferences. in the general tab click on audio and then tick the option that says "use software volume control". it shouldn't stop anymore and the playback will be smooth. I have attached a screen shot to show you the option.

This might be related to alsa/pulse. In 0.6.9-1, smplayer switched to using pulse rather than alsa. Could you switch the audio output (Options -> Preferences -> General -> Audio) to pulse and check if it fixes the problem?
