Bug Description

Binary package hint: gdm

Since Jaunty, ubuntu uses a fade-in effect when you change the background. This nice effect kind of goes to waste though, since the user does not change the background very often.

There IS a guaranteed background change every session, though: the one that happens between the login screen and the session. But that one guaranteed change is the one where there is no fade-in effect, and it's a shame because it would made a beautiful, seamless login.

Would it be technically possible to have the effect there?

The effect there has been turned off on purpose in jaunty because it adds 2 seconds to login time

I'm marking this bug as Invalid because of the explanation of Sebastien Bacher. If you feel this effect is worth the two seconds it takes, please open an idea at Ubuntu Brainstorm <http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com> or mail the ubuntu-desktop --<email address hidden> -- mailist.
Thanks!
