Bug Description

I had the firefox scroll button bug (scrolling too fast makes it history back and forth). I know it's just a matter of adding one line only, but on launchpad it says xserver it's not reconfigured on updates, so I thought it was time to dpkg- reconfigure xserver-xorg
ARGH!
my dri has got MUCH slower, so I took my old xorg.conf and restored it back
now, FYI, here's the two files, so that you can't compare and maybe the dev guys can solve the "issue". I think it's related to the wacom driver (as I can't see nothing more...).

I posted the two xorg.conf here:

thanx

Can you please confirm that _only_ putting in the wacom sections make the DRI slower? Or is it something with your different Device options?

yes, you can diff the two xorg.conf I posted but I there aren't any other differencies (something about composite but i tried switching it iff/on either and it didn't change anything).

There is a bunch of differences, that's why it would be nice if you could cleanly try to insert the wacom sections only.

Precisely what xorg server and what version are you using?

Please attach the Xorg.0.log (both the slow and the fast) also.

i've tried adding to the working configuration first the synpatic device, then disabled and added wacom and in fact i didn't experienced slow downs, so the problem must be somewhere else: dpkg-reconfigure'ing xserver-xorg still brings the problem up
unfortunately, due to lack of time, I can't do any further test, but I'll attach my logs

There is still the Option "XaaNoOffscreenPixmaps" different between your configurations.

no, that's not the problem. i added that to try xair but it didn't work, so i reverted to standard xorg and just left there the option. i added that line to the slower conf, so that i could try, and it didn't change anything...

last test: tried to remove the synaptic driver (from slow) to see if conflicted with wacom still no luck; tried to add "RenderAccel" no luck... i really don't know..

Can you please try to make the "slow" and "fast" configuration as close to each other as possible, and then post the diff? So far, you have said that the wacom stuff is not the problem, and that the options that are different in the two versions do not change anything. Well then, insert the wacom stuff and the same options in both versions and check it please.

What kind of "slow downs" do you experience? Do you have numbers from our beloved non-benchmark benchmarking tool glxgears?

This is the relevant issue. Mostlikely DRI doesn't work in 24/32 bit. Try to swich back to 16 bit and let us know.

Confirmed. Switching to 16bit worked

But nobody uses 16 bit color space nowdays, it is not "true color". Is there some way to get DRI work in 24 bit modes?
