Bug Description

I just upgraded from breezy to dapper.
The current kernel is 2.6.15-20.
I had lots of problems with ipw2200.
Lots of spurious disassociations.
Lots of error messages:
  ipw2200: firmware error detected. Restarting.

This is simply *unusable*.

After a few hours of trials and errors, I installed
ieee80211-1.1.13 and ipw2200-1.1.2 (m)
from the respective sourceforge sites.
These modules work for me.
No more disassociation.

- L.

P.S.
Fujitsu-Siemens P7010.
Wireless is Intel 2915abg
It was working fine with breezy (kernel 2.6.12).

I'm still getting this error message with 2.6.15-21 and all the latest everything else:

[4295027.935000] eth1: NETDEV_TX_BUSY returned; driver should report queue full via ieee_device->is_queue_full.
[4295179.508000] ipw2200: Firmware error detected. Restarting.
xxx@zzz:~$ uname -a
Linux xxx 2.6.15-21-686 #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Apr 21 16:57:03 UTC 2006 i686 GNU/Linux

Maybe there is even newer code.

This error still exists with:

Linux mopad 2.6.15-22-686 #1 SMP PREEMPT Sun May 7 16:37:57 UTC 2006 i686 GNU/Linux

The firmware errors disappeared after upgrading to ipw2200-1.1.2 and ieee80211-1.1.13.

Hope this will be fixed in dapper.

I can confirm that it still happens with the latest Ubuntu kernel:
------------------------
[4309703.953000] ipw2200: Firmware error detected. Restarting.

uname -a
Linux keithcul 2.6.15-23-686 #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu May 18 17:31:41 UTC 2006 i686 GNU/Linux

With 2.6.15-23-686 using the stock ipw driver.
The message "ipw2200: Firmware error detected."
only comes occasionally, without much
consequence on the connection.

But I noticed that doing
"rmmod ipw2200; modprobe ipw2200"
sometimes helps it "see" my network.

Launchpad Janitor (janitor) wrote : This bug is now reported against the 'linux' package

Beginning with the Hardy Heron 8.04 development cycle, all open Ubuntu kernel bugs need to be reported against the "linux" kernel package. We are automatically migrating this linux-source-2.6.15 kernel bug to the new "linux" package. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make this transition. Also, if you would be interested in testing the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release, it is available at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . Please let us know your results. Thanks!
