installing unbuntu with grub on 2nd hd buggy

Bug Description
i just installed dapper f6 on a second hd, having xp on the 1st, using bootmagic as a boot manager. default install + grub on the 2nd hd. bootmagic recognizes linux, so i didn't expect any problems there. when i tried to boot into ubuntu, it gets stuck with a message on the screen 'preparing machine to load linux ... GRUB' and sending the same message to my printer. after this the boot process stops.
