CD drive eject button does not eject cd

After a recent upgrade, the eject button on my CD drive doesn't work when there is a CD in the drive, and when I try to eject a cd using the right-click context menu, I have to enter a password just to eject it!

I assume this has something to do with the new dbus upgrades, as I was previously getting errors whenever inserting an SD card, which have now been replaced by this new behaviour of asking for authentication to mount certain drives (or unmount the cd). I am not sure which package to select, and I am getting no error message in the logs when I push the eject button.

I can confirm this. I am also running amd64 karmic and I have the exact same problem after recent updates.

I am also having trouble with the eject button not working. When I attempt to use the eject command via terminal, I get:

I forgot to mention - sudo eject, with password, works.

I have the same issue on Karmic 32bit running on my Acer 5315-2940 (Intel).

- Drive's eject button does not work at all;
- The "eject" option in the context menu asks for my password, with a Authenticate box;
- Eject in terminal:
       rodrigo@tesla-box:/media$ eject
       eject: unable to eject, last error: Inappropriate ioctl for device
- Sudo eject works.

I'm still getting this on mine, with every update applied. Any news? I'd think that this is a fairly big bug, considering that there's no reason to need a password to eject the CD being as I'm the user that has it mounted.

I confirm this bug with Ubuntu Karmic 32bit. When login, user is asked password for mounting the /dev/sda5 (partition of 8.04 installation) but I don't want to mount it (it even don't appear in the /etc/fstab).

I think I am having a similar bug, I am on 64bit koala up to date. I have random issues with my cdrom drive. I am unable to open it.(!)
I've just burnt a cd and now I have problem to open a drive again. Command "eject" does not work, which for most times works, but now I am really stuck. HW button on drive is not responding, eject netiher, only when "eject -t" I hear some noise in cdrom drive.
Anyone getting the same problem?! I am forced to reboot my PC cause of this bug

After upgrading to Alpha 6 (full upgraded at 19th September 4:00 AM GMT), my Samsung Q320 (the load-in CD drive TSST-TS-633A, no HW button) is able to recognize and mount the CD, the "eject" command from terminal is working under user account, but:

1. The CD icon on desktop has no option to eject (just unmount)
2. In Nautilus, the "eject/unmount" icon
3. As mentioned in Bug#297962 (Samsung notebooks backlight control keys don't work), the keyboard shortcut for optical drive eject doesn't work. The keyboard code for DVD/CD eject is e03a. It looks, that this problem is general for all Samsung notebooks with load-in CD/DVD drives

i too am having the same problems! most of the time the hardware eject button will work, them sometimes it wont. the only way i seem to be able to get discs out is via the eject symbol next the drive name in the computer window! this is really annoying as backup discs are no use to me stuck in the machine! i am running 9.10 32bit on acer travelmate 2303wlmi; its an old machine i know but nothing i do solves this strange isssue!
