Bug Description

Binary package hint: cups

Thank you very much for your support. If you want extra analysis steps please let me know.

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System -> About Ubuntu.
Description: Ubuntu 9.04
Release: 9.04

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy packagename' or by checking in Synaptic.

3) What you expected to happen
print test pages would at least work
4) What happened instead
jobs end in state "pending", once, a job even came until state "processing", but not one sound on my printer (which still works fine under Windows"

5) some extra info, hope that helps:
- tried to create "new" printer via system>>administration>>printing>>server>>new>>printer
   (i) Canon LBP2900 directly as USB
   (ii) Canon Printer Daemon Port #1
- tried to use different "workarounds" as suggested on
   (i)http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1143439
   (ii)https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HardwareSupportComponentsPrinters/CanonPrinters/Canon_LBP_2900 with "/etc/init.d/cups" instead of "/etc/init.d/cupsys"
those workaround instructions seem outdated, now CANON drivers shipping with *.deb installation packages that correctly setup FIFOs, but in theory, the AppArmor setting was an additional setting ... yet no effect.

I have been trying now for 2-3 weeks. But before this very bugreport, I removed cups,canondrivers,... via "aptitude remove" and "dpkg -r" and reinstalled everything anew.

Thank you for your help.
Kind regards

I only see that you are in the Europe/Berlin time zone but the job was sent in Letter format and not in A4. Please check whether the print queue's default page size is set to A4 and whether also in the app A4 was chosen ("Page Setup" in most GNOME applications).

Thank you, Till.
I cleaned the queue vie "cancel -a".

I changed my default to A4 via
System>>Administration>>Printing
and in there LBP2900 for Properties>>Printer Options>>Page size
.
Then I opened gedit, typed a few lines and set
(i) >>File>>Page Format>>Format For := LBP2900
(ii) >>>>File>>Page Format>>Paper Size := A4, Portrait

But there is no observable print action. Job queue says "Processing".

Do you want me to resend any of the attached outputs with those new "A4" settings?
Thank you for your answer.

Kind regards

You seem to be using the v1.5 ppd file with the v1.8 driver? Did you try removing your printer queue and reinstall your printer again?

jwtear nariman, Canon's proprietary driver has some compatibility problems with Ubuntu. Please follow the instructions on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/CanonCaptDrv190, especially if you use a Ubuntu version older than Maverick.
