Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

While installing kUbuntu 9.10 amd64 daily-build from 3 and 4 July this error appeared:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/lib/ubiquity/bin/ubiquity", line 227, in <module>
    main()
  File "/usr/lib/ubiquity/bin/ubiquity", line 222, in main
    install(args[0])
  File "/usr/lib/ubiquity/bin/ubiquity", line 68, in install
    ret = wizard.run()
  File "/usr/lib/ubiquity/ubiquity/frontend/kde_ui.py", line 412, in run
    self.progress_loop()
  File "/usr/lib/ubiquity/ubiquity/frontend/kde_ui.py", line 728, in progress_loop
    "/var/log/syslog" % ret)
RuntimeError: Install failed with exit code 1; see /var/log/syslog

But when I tried to upload /var/log/syslog launchpad shows a message, that empty file couldn't be uploaded.

Perhaps you could use 'ubuntu-bug ubiquity' to file the bug, if Kubuntu has that? We really need /var/log/syslog, otherwise we can't do anything at all with this bug and will have to close it, I'm afraid. Perhaps it's only readable by root?

This might well be bug 394338.

Sokolov,

As Colin suggests, this may be fixed. Can you please try with a recent daily-live CD (http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/daily-live)? If the installer still fails, please open a konsole window and type `apport-collect 395420`.

Thanks!
